Hello!
My name is Makaila and welcome to my website! I am a competitive 3-day eventer, dressage rider, as well as a current Masters of Equine Science student through the University of Edinburgh. I am the proud owner of three incredible horses- Risk, Archer and Fern. My passion is to educate horse owners on various equine topics from a research standpoint that I have learned through my schooling and simplify it for everyone to understand!
My Story
F.A.R. Equine stands for my three wonderful horses: Fern, Archer and Risk. F.A.R. sounded a lot better then RAF or ARF, so Fern got her letter first!! My horses are my biggest inspirations for sharing with others what I have learned. All three came to me from various backgrounds, some of them difficult and inspired me to provide the best life I could for them. Nutrition and welfare especially interested me, due to the circumstances some of my horses came to me. Up until this point I had a Bachelors of Science degree and I thought I wanted to be a veterinarian. But my horses stories inspired me to discover and pursue my true passion, which is the care of horses by providing improved welfare and nutrition. This led me to being accepted into the Masters in Equine Science program through the University of Edinburgh where I have successfully completed my first year. My end goal is to hopefully become an Equine Nutritionist with a focus on Equine Welfare. Through my program I learn various research based topics on all aspects of horses, from welfare to nutrition to reproduction to equitation and everything in between. My hope is to share what I have learned to help educate horses owners to make the best decisions for their own horses.
